Doge DNS: how Dogecoin names resolve
Doge DNS maps .doge, .dogecoin and .doginals names to Dogecoin addresses and profiles. See how lookups, ownership and first-inscription-wins work on DNS.
Look up a name →"DNS" on the web means the Domain Name System that turns example.com into a server address. Doge DNS borrows the idea for Dogecoin: it turns a readable name like shibe.doge into the Dogecoin address that owns it, plus any profile the owner has set. DNS, the Doge Name Service at dogenames.market, is a registry, lookup and marketplace for those names.
Registration on chain
Each name is written to the Dogecoin blockchain as a Doginal inscription using a commit transaction followed by a reveal transaction. The reveal carries the name and is sent to the registrant's address. Nothing about ownership is kept only in a private database: the chain is the source of truth.
First inscription wins
An indexer reads every name inscription in block order. The first valid inscription of a given name, after normalising to lowercase, is the owner. Later inscriptions of the same name are ignored. Before you sign, DNS checks availability and briefly holds the name for you so two people do not pay for the same one at the same moment.
Resolving a name
A lookup answers three questions: is the name registered, which address holds the inscription now, and what has the holder published for it. Because ownership follows the inscription, a name that is sold or transferred resolves to the new holder automatically. You can open any name's page at dogenames.market/name/yourname.doge.
Name format
Labels use a-z, 0-9 and hyphens, or emoji and other scripts, up to 63 characters per part. The ending must be .doge, .dogecoin or .doginals. See doge domains for the full rules.
Doge DNS vs internet DNS
Doge DNS names do not replace web domains, and a browser will not open shibe.doge by itself. They are an identity layer for Dogecoin: wallets, explorers, profiles and communities can display and resolve them. Ownership comes from holding the inscription, not from a lease.
Built for speed
Searches return instantly from an edge-cached index, and registration is a single wallet flow. If you want more background, read about the Dogecoin Name Service or jump straight to the registration guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is Doge DNS?
Doge DNS is a naming system for Dogecoin that maps readable names like shibe.doge to the Dogecoin address that owns them. DNS at dogenames.market provides search, registration and trading.
Can a browser open a .doge name like a website?
Not by itself. Doge DNS names are Dogecoin identity names, not ICANN web domains. You can open any name on dogenames.market/name/yourname.doge.
How is ownership decided?
The first valid inscription of a name on the Dogecoin blockchain owns it. After that, whoever holds the inscription is the owner.
Does Doge DNS keep my keys?
No. You sign in your own wallet and the name is sent to your own address.
